injustice

A few years ago one of my best friends was going through one of the toughest part of his life. He was not in a good place physically or mentally but never took it out on anyone else. Despite his situation he always tries to bring joy and truth into people’s lives. One day he had an episode and broke a window on his mom’s property where his ex-step dad was living. This is the only violent act he’s ever committed. The story got blown out of proportion in the local newspaper and he was portrayed as a violent axe wielding maniac and ended up in jail. He was going to become a felon so his family and friends (me included) encouraged him to take an insanity plea. Now hes been locked in an institution for over 2 years, has no release date and is getting more disillusion the longer he’s there. My friend Charlie and I check in on him every now and then and we both agree that he is getting worse the longer he is in there. The dude is smart too. He taught me how to make kambucha all the back in 2014 before it was trendy, he grows his own tobacco food and fixes his own electronics and is a great and noble thinker. Even now when we talk on the phone I always get uplifted by the end of our conversation because his good intends and postivity still shine through his insanity. Americas criminal justice system and mental health care system is littered with stories like this; these institutions treat people of different incomes and races differently which goes against everything I know. If my friend was a Clinton and this happen he would’ve been out in a day. The only just way forward in my opionin is to fuck the criminal justice system and redefine what America means by criminal, rehabilitation and healthcare.
